Homemade Christmas II: Niece & Nephew Gifts

Part II of our Home-made Christmas ~ The gifts for my nieces & nephews.

I saw the idea for a Fort Kit here.  I thought it was a genius idea and started collecting supplies.

The 3 kits.  1 for each of my nephews and 1 for Natalie Grace:

Natalie's Kit:
Outer bag & accessory bag from a pillowcase I got at Goodwill - $0.50
Rope from Dollar Store: $1
Glow Sticks from Dollar Store: $1
Flashlight from Dollar Store:  $1
(Batteries for said flashlight):  $1
Suction cups from Walmart:  $2.50
Sheet from Goodwill:  $1
Clips:  $2
Ties from old T-shirt:  Free
Tag:  Printed on cardstock at home:  Free
TOTAL ~~~~~~~~  $9.50

Wouldn't you know it's her favorite :)

My nephew's kit.  Sheet, accessory bag (the sheet came in it!), and rope.

Since I had to buy the sheet new, this one was a *little* bit more.  I think $13 total.  (Still very reasonable!)

Added loops/ties on the corners, mid-way points of the straight edges, and in the overall center of the sheet:

Sewn in an "X" for durability (in theory) :)

For the 4-month old, we opted for a little initial "taggie blanket."  I got this idea here.  I loved the general concept.  Natalie found the fabrics at Hobby Lobby and the ribbons were ones I had on hand.  In general, I would have preferred the ribbons to have different textures, but I love the way it came out either way ~ the bright colors, the contrasting stripes and polka dots - and the satiny feel on the back.  Merry Christmas, Baby A!

And this one for the 4-year old.  I got this idea here.  She posts a downloadable version you can just print, cut, and glue, but I wanted to personalize a little more than that, so I used some scrapbook paper Natalie carefully chose at ... yep, Hobby Lobby.   I had the little bag from some buttons I bought at a craft store years ago (that now live in jars) and it worked perfectly for this.  A quick little photoshop for a tag (directions photoshopped in opposite colors on the back) and VOILA!  A Popsicle Memory Game.  She beat me twice in a row when we played it last night! :)

Had so much fun with each of these!!

  1. Those are GENIUS. I'm totally doing that for all my nephew's birthdays this year. The first one is in February and then one in March and April. Poor Chase won't get his until December. But I love this. I would make one for my kids, but. . . . I'm afraid of forts in my house. LOL
